Crusade License Agreement
This agreement is between you and Kyle Chandler of Simi Valley, California ("we", "us"), the maker of Crusade. It covers the Crusade software, its updates, and the license keys and license files for it. By installing or using Crusade you agree to it (the installer asks you to accept it first). If you don't agree, don't install or use Crusade.
The free viewer and the free trial
Anyone may download, install and use Crusade free of charge, on any number of computers, for any purpose, including at work. Without a license, Crusade is a viewer: it opens, shows, measures, renders, prints and exports files, and it can't create or change documents.
Free trial. Each computer may have one free trial of the full Crusade, editing included, for 30 days, started with Start Free Trial in Crusade (it needs the internet once). The trial costs nothing, asks for no payment details and never turns into a purchase. When it ends, Crusade becomes the free viewer again, and your files stay yours and can still be opened. The trial is for using Crusade yourself: don't sell or charge for the trial or for access to it, and don't try to get more than one trial for a computer. We may change or stop offering the free trial for computers that haven't started one. Earlier versions' shared trial ends at the end of November 10, 2026 (California time). Everything else in this agreement applies to the trial as it does to a license, except that section 8 (refunds) doesn't apply because nothing was paid.
A license
A license is a one-time purchase. It never expires and has no subscription. With it you may:
- use the full Crusade, including editing and saving, for personal or commercial work;
- have it activated on up to 3 computers at a time; releasing a computer (License ▸ Release This Computer…) frees its place for another;
- use every version of Crusade we release, now and later.
A license bought by a person is for that person. A license bought by a business may be used by the people at that business, within the same 3 computers. A license can't be sold, given or otherwise transferred to someone else.
The license is a lifetime right to use Crusade. It doesn't sell you the software or any of its code. We keep all rights we don't give you here.
License checks
When you activate a license, Crusade contacts crusadecad.com once. After that:
- Normal mode (the default): once more than 2 weeks have passed since the last successful check, Crusade checks that the license is still valid for that computer when it starts or looks for updates, and after it's updated to a new version. If it can't reach crusadecad.com, it keeps working. It needs a successful check at least once every 30 days: from day 23 it reminds you, and after 30 days it opens as the free viewer until a check succeeds. It never stops in the middle of your work, and your files always stay openable. If a computer in Normal mode is lost or broken, free its place from your order page at Lemon Squeezy (My Orders). If that computer comes back online, it stops being licensed at its next check.
- Offline only mode: After activation, Crusade never checks the license. Release a computer in this mode from itself (License ▸ Release This Computer…, which goes online for a moment to free its place) before you reinstall it, replace it or give it away. If it is lost, broken or never online, you may free its place from your order page instead. Once its place is freed, that computer is no longer licensed: don't use Crusade on it unless you activate it again, which takes one of your places.
A license file works only on the computer it was made for.
If we ever stop running the license checks (for example, if Crusade stops being sold), we will first release a final update that no longer needs them, so that licenses already bought keep working.
What you may not do
- Share, sell, publish or give away your license key or license files, except by moving your own license between your own computers as described above.
- Get around, disable or fake the license checks, or help anyone else to.
- Rent, lease or resell Crusade, or sell it as part of a service where others use it in your place.
- Remove or change Crusade's copyright, license or attribution notices.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble Crusade, except where the law lets you anyway, and except for the open-source parts as section 6 says.
Your files
Your parts, assemblies, drawings and other files are yours. We claim no rights in them, and Crusade doesn't send them to us. That includes pictures and logos you put in them; use only ones you have the right to use. Crusade's own file formats are documented at crusadecad.com/file-format, so that your work isn't locked in.
Open-source parts
Crusade is built on open-source software, listed on crusadecad.com/licenses and in the THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES file installed with Crusade. Each of those parts is under its own license, and nothing in this agreement limits the rights those licenses give you. In particular, you may change the LGPL-licensed libraries (OpenCASCADE, Qt, LibRaw), replace them with your own builds, and reverse-engineer Crusade to the extent needed to debug such changes. The THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES file says how to get their source code.
Privacy
What Crusade sends, what's kept and who can see it is described on crusadecad.com/privacy. In short: the update check sends the app's name and version; license activation and checks send your license key, a code for the computer and the mode. The computer code is made from the computer's own system ID by a one-way scramble: it doesn't contain the computer's name or details, but it is the same each time, so it tells your computers apart and is linked to your order. crusadecad.com keeps none of it. Starting a free trial sends a different one-way code for the computer, and crusadecad.com keeps only a scrambled form of it, so each computer gets one trial, and a count of trials started each day. Lemon Squeezy, which sells Crusade for us, keeps your order and a log of your license's activations under its own privacy policy, and we can see them there to handle orders, refunds and support.
Refunds
You can ask for a refund within 30 days of buying, for any reason or none. First release your license from every computer it's on (License ▸ Release This Computer… on each, or from your order page at Lemon Squeezy for a computer that is lost or broken), then request the refund at crusadecad.com/refund, which checks your purchase and refunds it at once (or write to support@crusadecad.com with your order number). Once the store shows no computers left on it, we refund the purchase. Once a purchase is refunded or charged back, its license ends and its key stops working. Lemon Squeezy, which sells Crusade for us, may also give refunds under its own terms. Your local consumer law may give you more rights than this, and nothing here takes those away.
Engineering results are estimates
Crusade's analysis tools (SimpleSim, gear strength, the bolt calculator, Design Check, mass properties, cost and print estimates, and others) give quick estimates to help you design. They are not certified, they simplify reality, and they can be wrong. Check results independently, and have a qualified engineer and real tests confirm any design before you rely on it, above all where a failure could hurt someone or damage property. You are responsible for your designs and how they are used.
No warranty
TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, CRUSADE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T PROMISE THAT IT WILL BE FREE OF ERRORS OR THAT IT WILL RUN WITHOUT INTERRUPTION. Some places don't allow these exclusions; where that is so, they apply only as far as allowed.
Crusade is designed, directed and tested by Kyle Chandler. Much of its code was written with AI (Anthropic's Claude) under his direction and review.
Limits on liability
TO THE EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA OR THE COST OF REPLACEMENT GOODS, HOWEVER CAUSED. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANYTHING TO DO WITH CRUSADE IS LIMITED TO WHAT YOU PAID FOR YOUR LICENSE (NOTHING, FOR THE FREE VIEWER OR THE FREE TRIAL). Some places don't allow these limits; where that is so, they apply only as far as allowed.
Nothing in this agreement limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that can't be limited or excluded by law.
Ending
You may stop using Crusade at any time. If you break this agreement, your license ends and we may disable your key. Sections 4 to 6 and 9 to 18 continue after it ends.
Updates, support and changes
- We intend to keep improving Crusade and to answer support email, but we aren't obliged to release updates, fix problems or give support. Section 3 says what happens if the license checks ever stop.
- Updates are optional. A new version may come with an updated agreement, which then applies to that version. We won't take away a license you have already bought, and what your license covers is what this agreement said when you bought it: if a later agreement covers less (fewer computers, or fewer future versions), licenses bought before keep what they were sold with.
Macros
Crusade's macros (Tools ▸ Macro Console and Tools ▸ Run Macro…) run Python code with the same access to your computer and files as Crusade itself. Only run macros you wrote yourself or got from someone you trust. We aren't responsible for what a macro does.
The Vault
Crusade's Vault keeps your or your team's files, versions and part numbers in a folder or on a vault service that you set up and run, on your own computers or network storage. Its files, accounts and activity log stay there: nothing in a vault is sent to us, and we can't see, recover or restore it. You are responsible for who you give accounts to, for telling the people who use your vault that it keeps a log of what they do, for keeping backups, and for keeping the vault and its backups where only people you trust can reach them. Whether a vault service encrypts its files is your choice. If you encrypt it, you are also responsible for keeping its encryption key safe and backed up separately: if the key is lost, the vault can't be read, by you or by us. Sections 10 and 11 apply to the Vault.
Feedback
If you send us feedback, suggestions, ideas or reviews, we may use them freely, including by building them into Crusade, without owing you payment or credit. Don't send anything you want kept confidential.
Export
Crusade is subject to United States export control and sanctions laws. You may not download, use, update or send Crusade in or to a country or region under comprehensive US sanctions (at the time of writing: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and the Crimea, so-called Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic regions of Ukraine), or in or to Russia or Belarus, where US law requires a license for design software such as Crusade; or to anyone on a US government list of restricted parties; or for a use those laws forbid (such as weapons of mass destruction or military end uses they restrict). crusadecad.com doesn't serve those places. You will also follow the export and sanctions laws that apply to you.
The law and the rest
- This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any court case goes to the state or federal courts in Ventura County, California, unless your local consumer law says otherwise.
- We may transfer this agreement to someone who takes over Crusade; your rights under it stay the same.
- If part of this agreement can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- This is the whole agreement about Crusade between you and us.
